Hello! My name is mia. I am an aspiring UX designer who is passionate about highlighting accessibility and empathy in user-focused design. This presents a strong interest in the mix between design aesthetics and usability, something I hope to continue fostering.
Since discovering UX design, I have been excited to join a field that encourages confronting bias to create inclusive design that benefits everyone, regardless of their background. This page displays my past work experience and how it will apply to the world of UX design!
about me
background
UX Design Course
Sept 2025 - Dec 2025
Google UX Design Professional Certificate
Throughout this course, I worked to complete all seven Google UX Design courses (110+ hours). This effort resulted in the creation of a spa web design and a dedicated mobile app. I also developed skills in Figma, the UX design process, UX research, low and high-fidelity prototypes, and wireframes
Archaeologist
Oct 2024 - Present
Rincon Consultants Inc, Dudek, and Material Culture Consulting
During this job, I worked on surveys, construction monitoring, and excavation. I developed my confidence working as a young woman on a construction site, and also my note-taking and documentation skills due to the high level of recordation that is present in archaeology.
Throughout this job, I realized my desire for a career that fostered more intellectual and creative stimulation and thus began my search for something to fill those boxes. I soon found UX design.
University of California, Santa Cruz
Sept 2022 - June 2024
B.A. in Anthropology
I completed my undergraduate work at the University of California, Santa Cruz, to earn my B.A. in Anthropology. I was inspired to pursue this degree as I was fascinated to learn how people and cultures worked. I learned about topics ranging from monumental archaeology to neanderthal practices, to how the media and people shape each other. The knowledge I gained throughout this degree will allow me to have further insight into human behavior, which in turn creates stronger design.
During my time at UCSC, I took many opportunities to participate in research, including volunteer forest ecology at the UCSC Forest Ecology Research Plot, as well as grant proposal writing experience in my paleotology seminar, in which I completed a 5-page proposal on the effects of climate change on heritage sites in efforts to identify protections for at-risk locations. Furthermore, I participated in video coding and research proposal writing at the Primate Ecology and Molecular Anthropology (PEMA) lab, in which I gained a research paper acknowledgment. This lab also gave me further grant proposal writing experience by completing a comparative study on how human disturbance affected the presence of blue duikers in Tanzania and black-tailed. This research experience will allow me to be more familiar and comfortable with UX design research processes.
Another relevant experience I was able to obtain during my undergraduate studies was working with the UCSC Disability Resource Center as a peer notetaker. This background further aids my work in field of UX design
